Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sales Breaking Franchise Records

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake could have launched in the course of a world pandemic, however that hasn’t stopped gamers from getting their fingers on the title each digitally and at retail. Such was the demand for the sport that it set a brand new launch month franchise report in each unit and greenback gross sales.

According to NPD Group, Final Fantasy VII Remake was the best-selling sport within the United States in April 2020. It’s at present the third best-selling sport within the area year-to-date (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare stays no. 1). The remake is 2020’s best-selling title to this point on the PlayStation 4.

Digital chart monitoring firm SuperData has revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake has bought 2.2 million digital models to this point – one other report for the franchise and PlayStation exclusives. Thanks partly to retailer closures, digital gross sales narrowly beat Marvel’s Spider-Man‘s launch sales, which were previously a record for PlayStation exclusives.

Going back to NPD, video game spending in the U.S. last month set a new record for an April month. As previously reported, video game spending between January and March also broke records.

Consumers spent $1.5 billion across hardware, software, accessories, and game cards in April. The following titles were the month’s high ten:

  1. Final Fantasy VII: Remake
  2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
  3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  4. NBA 2K20
  5. Grand Theft Auto V
  6. Resident Evil 3
  7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Remastered
  8. MLB: The Show 20
  9. Madden NFL 20 [EA Sports]
  10. Red Dead Redemption II
