You will see it coming

In all my years – many years – of taking part in Street Fighter, there isn’t a one character I’ve put extra time into than gaming’s foremost fortune-teller, Rose. From her first look in 1995’s Street Fighter Alpha, to her nice, EVO-winning comeback in 2008’s Street Fighter IV, I’ve poured months’ price of time into the Italian psychic. And that clock is about to maintain turning, with Rose’s long-awaited return in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.

As revealed throughout yesterdays’ “Street Fighter V Spring Update” reside stream, Rose’s high-fashion heels are set to come back click-clacking into battle on April 19. The solemn, tragic diva will return to the ring armed along with her trusty scarf, her mastery of Soul Power, and various tubs of hair gel.

Notably, for the first time, Rose will really use the energy of the Tarot in battle, as her V-Skill I potential will afford her the use of a choice of playing cards, which can be utilized to buff herself or apply de-buffs to he opponent. This mechanic alone affords Rose a tactical depth that’s lacking from so many fighters on the SFV roster, welcome creativity that bodes properly for the design of future iterations in the franchise.

V-Skill II sees the return of Rose’s traditional “Soul Satellite” assault, an orbiting sphere of Soul Power that may be neatly integrated into combos to extend their size and harm. When you add into the combine Rose’s new V-Trigger – a teleport with a number of touchdown spots – you’ve what might be the deepest iteration of Rose that the franchise has seen in years… maybe ever. You can see all of those expertise in motion in the video above, together with Rose’s new winpose, which characteristic Tarot portraits of varied Street Fighter characters…

Wait… Is that C. Viper?.. Hmm…

Rose arrives as the second DLC character from Street Fighter V‘s fifth and last season of content material, following the return of goofball Dan Hibiki last month, and forward of Street Fighter III hermit Oro, Rival Schools’ biker girl Akira, and the mysterious fifth contender. I can not assist however be disillusioned that Rose has arrived so late in SFV‘s lifetime – it is literal twilight 12 months, in truth. But at the very least she’s coming in a mode befitting her beautiful nature, and can hopefully obtain increased precedence come the inevitable launch of Street Fighter VI.

After all, it is in the playing cards…
