Fawzi Mesmar, the top of design of Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront franchises, has introduced his departure from DICE. According to an e-mail obtained by Video Games Chronicle and later corroborated by an Electronic Arts consultant, Mesmar’s final day on the studio is tomorrow, November twenty sixth.
In his e-mail, Mesmar wrote that he was made a proposal elsewhere that he “couldn’t refuse.” However, he wished to attend till Battlefield 2042‘s launch, and his new employer was “kind enough” to accommodate his request. Mesmar also revealed that he had been discussing his succession plans with DICE GM Oskar Gabrielson for some time, but chose to delay the announcement of his departure in order to keep the team’s deal with Battlefield 2042‘s launch.
The email reads:
It was an absolute pleasure to serve on the best design teams in the galaxy. The incredible design work that you do continues to inspire me every day. Thank you for putting some faith in me, I hope I didn’t disappoint.
I’ve been made a proposal I couldn’t refuse at one other firm that has been form sufficient to attend for me till we’ve shipped [Battlefield 2042]. It was tremendous necessary to me to be right here with the group as we obtain this historic milestone.
While Oskar and myself have been discussing my succession plans for a while – and it will likely be introduced in the end – we opted to delay this communication until after launch to maintain the main focus – rightfully so – on the game we’ve been placing a monumental quantity of effort on.
Mesmar joined DICE in 2019, and labored on Star Wars Battlefront II and Battlefield V previous to Battlefield 2042.
